STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford junior women's volleyball player Jordan Burgess was named the #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinal to wins at No. 16 Arizona and No. 18 Arizona State last week.
Burgess, a human biology major from Fort Myers, Fla., averaged 3.62 kills, 3.12 digs and 4.13 points per set while hitting .371 in the two matches. The top-ranked Cardinal is off to its best start (16-0) since 2007.
At Arizona, Burgess tied her career high with 19 kills on a .410 hitting percentage to go with nine digs. Against the Sun Devils, the outside hitter posted her team-best eighth double-double of the season with 10 kills, including the 800th of her career, and 16 digs.
Burgess is the first women's volleyball player to earn the weekly honor this season. It is the third-such award of her career as she also captured it during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Stanford continues conference play on the road this week, traveling to Colorado on Friday, Oct. 17 and Utah on Sunday, Oct. 19. Both matches will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
