VARESE, Italy – Recent Stanford graduate Daphne Martschenko began competition Wednesday at the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy.
Martschenko had a chance to put her Slavic Language major to use with Russia and Poland in the same heat as the U.S. in the women’s quadruple sculls second heat.
Sitting three seat for the U.S., Martschenko and her teammates were in fourth place throughout the race and finished in a time of 6:47.69. They were 4.65 seconds behind Germany, while Russia and Poland took the top two spots, respectively.
The USA quad scull will continue on to the reps on Thursday at 6:49 p.m. in Italy.
Three other Stanford women’s rowers will also race tomorrow. Filippa Karrfelt will compete for Sweden in the women’s double skulls tomorrow. Incoming freshman Devin Norder will follow shortly after in the lightweight women’s double skulls. Lilly Tinapple will start racing with the Australia women’s eight tomorrow afternoon.
