HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Pac-12 Conference Media Days mean that the football season is around the corner. Prior to Wednesday’s events, the 2014 conference’s preseason media poll was released with Stanford picked to finish second in the North Division.

The Cardinal garnered two first-place votes and 192 points with the media picking Oregon to win the division with 37 first place votes and 232 points. The media selected Oregon to win the Pac-12 title over preseason South Division favorite UCLA.

Stanford was also picked as a preseason runner-up in the North Division last season, but the Cardinal went on to win a second straight conference title en route to a second consecutive trip to the Rose Bowl Game.

In the Pac-12 South, UCLA registered 37 first-place votes and 231 points while USC garnered one first-place vote and 181 points. Defending South Division champion Arizona State also earned one first-place vote.

The media poll has correctly selected the conference champion in 28 of 53 previous polls, including 11 of the last 14.

David Shaw, Stanford’s Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football, is attending this year’s football media days with senior quarterback Kevin Hogan and senior strong safety Jordan Richards. The trio will spend Wednesday doing television interviews before Thursday’s traditional media day activities.

The 2014 Pac-12 Championship Football Game will take place Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. (PT) and will be televised to a national audience on FOX. The championship game will match the winner of the North Division against the winner of the South Division at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
