STANFORD, Calif. –  Stanford senior running back Kelsey Young is among the watch list candidates for the 2014 Doak Walker Award, as announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back.

Semifinalists will be named Nov. 18 and finalists will be announced Nov. 24. The recipient will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 11, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February 2015.

Young, a computer science major from Norco, Calif., received consideration despite entering his first season as a predominant running back and in recognition of his ability. Despite playing alongside all-conference stars Stepfan Taylor and Tyler Gaffney, Young has carved his own reputation as a dangerous play-maker who has worked his way up the depth chart since red-shirting as a freshman.

Playing the 2013 as a split-end player, Young was someone opposing teams had to account for, often in motion before the snap. Mike Bloomgren, the Andrew Luck Director of Offense, described Young as a “football player” when asked about his natural position.

With limited reps, Young displayed his speed with a 32-yard rush against Arizona State, a 36-yard reception versus Washington State and a 27-yard touchdown run against Cal last year. He was also used on kick return duty alongside All-American Ty Montgomery.

As a sophomore in 2012, Young averaged 22.2 yards per kickoff return and played both receiver and running back. He scored the first points of the 2013 Rose Bowl Game with a 16-yard touchdown run against Wisconsin.

Stanford’s season opens Aug. 30 with a 1 p.m. (PT) home game against UC Davis on Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal plays its first three games at home with USC visiting the Stadium Sept. 6 (12:30 p.m., ABC) and Army visiting Sept. 13 (2 p.m., Pac-12 Net).

Season tickets are on sale with five sections and price levels already sold out. Three-game Mini plans are also on sale now.

Season ticket holders are eligible to purchase individual game tickets for all 2014 home games starting July 8-9. Single-game tickets go on sale July 21 with a special online-only promotion code through Stanford’s Facebook and @GoStanford Twitter account. All tickets are on sale starting July 22.
