STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford rising junior Jessica Plaza was selected to the 17-player Team USA Softball Women’s National Team roster, as announced this past weekend by the Amateur Softball Association of America and USA Softball.
Plaza will compete with Team USA in multiple events throughout the summer, highlighted by the International Softball Federation Women’s World Championships on Aug. 15-24 in Haarlem, Netherlands.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to play for Team USA,” said Plaza. “It has been my dream since I started playing softball at the age of five. It is an honor to have been selected and I know it will be the experience of a lifetime. I am excited to play alongside the best in the country and to help bring home gold for the USA.”
Team USA will compete in a series of exhibition games and three tournaments to prepare for the ISF Women’s World Championship. The three competitions include the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif. (July 7-13), the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada (July 15-21) and Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy (Aug. 6-10).
Plaza tied for the team lead with six home runs, hitting .283 with six doubles, 25 RBI and a .496 slugging percentage. She held a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate for the Cardinal.
Plaza earned a silver medal with the U.S. Junior National Team at the 2013 International Softball Federation Junior Women’s World Championship.
