STANFORD, Calif. – Four Stanford women’s rowers will attempt to make their respective national teams this summer.

Graduating senior Daphne Martschenko, rising senior Nancy Miles, rising junior Filippa Karrfelt and rising sophomore Lilly Tinapple are all set to train towards a goal of making it to the Under-23 World Championships in Varese, Italy July 23-27.

Martschenko will be going to Berkeley to train at the U.S. selection camp June 8 through July 5. She will compete at the Under-23 World Championship trials in West Windsor, N.J. June 22-25. If she makes the team, she will train at Princeton, N.J. starting July 8.

In 2012, Martschenko took sixth with the U.S. women’s four at the U-23 World Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.

Miles will try for the U.S. lightweight squad. She is currently in Seattle training to get ready for the trials June 22-25 in West Windsory, N.J. The two will go for a spot in the lightweight 2x event.

“I am very excited at the potential to not only race again for team USA, but to also potentially see Daphne, Lilly and Filippa competing for their respective national teams at Worlds,” said Miles.

Miles will look to make the team for a second straight year and compete at the World Championships for a third time in four years. She claimed a silver medal last summer in the lightweight quad skulls in Chungiu, South Korea and placed fourth in the quad at the 201 Junior World Championships.

Karrfelt will compete for a spot with the Swedish national team. She will be traveling to Amsterdam for a qualification regatta the final weekend in June. She will be competing in a double.

Last year in Linz, Austria she finished 12th overall in the single skulls for the U.S.

Tinapple will compete with the other Australia natives who are going to college in the United States at a regatta in Princeton, N.J. June 12-16. The selections from that regatta will be announced June 17 and if she makes the roster she will head to the training camp June 17-30.

In each of the last three years, Tinapple competed at the World Championships. She placed fourth with the eight at the U-23 World Championships last year in Linz, Austria and the two years before she competed in the four at the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2012 and Eton, England in 2011.
