STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s gymnast Shona Morgan was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The honor recognizes student athlete’s-success in athletics and in the classroom. Morgan became eligible for the national honor when she earned All-District accolades in mid-May.

Morgan was a 2014 First Team All-American on bars and placed ninth in the event at the NCAA Individual Event Finals. She is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection (2012-14), a two-time NACGC/Women’s Scholastic All-American (2012, 2013) and holds a 3.86 GPA as a human biology major.

Morgan, a 2008 Olympian from Melbourne, Australia, was one of Stanford’s most consistent competitors during her time with the team. She primarily performed in the leadoff position to ensure a strong start on events. She recorded career-highs on bars (9.900) and beam (9.950) during her senior season.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
