STANFORD, Calif. - Head coach Jason Borrelli has announced that redshirt senior Garrett Schaner, redshirt junior Michael Sojka and redshirt sophomore Jim Wilson will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
Schaner returns next year after redshirting in 2013-14. The 157-pounder was 16-8 during his redshirt campaign, winning the California Collegiate Open and placing fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions. The Big Rapids, Mich., native holds a 44-45 career record at Stanford.
Sojka posted a 12-14 record as a redshirt sophomore in 2013-14. Wrestling at 184 pounds, he took second at the Mike Clock Open on Nov. 10 and finished fifth at the Roadrunner Open on Nov. 17. A native of Winnebago, Ill., Sojka is 29-30 overall during his time on The Farm.
Wilson is coming off one of the best rookie campaigns in program history. The Lodi, Calif., native was the Pac-12 Newcomer/Freshman of the Year after becoming the first Stanford freshman to win a Pac-12 title since 1993. The 165-pounder registered a 35-8 record, going 18-2 in duals. His 35 wins tied Matt Gentry, Stanford’s only NCAA champion, for the second-most wins by a freshman in school history. He qualified for the NCAA championships, finishing 2-2 in his first national tournament.
Stanford's captains were chosen by a team vote.
