COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Stanford jumped from ninth to second place Sunday at the APS Team Race Championship with a 14-6 record.
The Cardinal opened the regatta Saturday in ninth place after an 8-5 showing but went 6-1 on Sunday to spring into the second position behind Yale (18-1).
Kevin Laube, Antoine Screve, Mateo Vargas, Hans Henken, Kieran Chung and Oliver Toole skippered the team. Stanford was represented by crews Yuri Namikawa, Helena Scutt, Tally Buckstaff, Mary Vangelos, Haley Kirk and Carolyn Ortel.
The Cardinal opened the regatta with consecutive victories against Old Dominion and Michigan, setting up a highlight race against Yale. Stanford was unable to knock off the leaders with Yale claiming the victory.
That would be the only hiccup on the day for the Cardinal, which reeled off four straight wins to end the day. Stanford defeated Georgetown, Roger Williams, St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Tufts to complete an impressive 6-1 showing.
The Cardinal will look to close the gap on Yale tomorrow as it competes in the final day of the APS Team Race Championship. Live updates can be followed via collegesailing.org.
