STANFORD, Calif.- John Morrissey has been named an All-Pac-12 Second Team selection for the second straight season, as announced today by the conference office.
Morrissey, who was also named a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honoree as a sophomore in 2013, posted a 15-10 overall record during his junior campaign. Morrissey checked in at No. 118 in the latest edition of the national rankings and finished 11-5 in duals, playing all of his matches at the top spot of the lineup.
Morrissey was also recently recognized on a higher level, receiving the ITA Northwest Region’s Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship & Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
Morrissey has excelled in his role as someone who leads by example, providing personal guidance both on and off the court to an underclassmen-laden Cardinal team. In addition to participating in various community service initiatives during his first three years on The Farm, Morrissey is viewed by the coaching staff as a thoughtful leader who always places the welfare of his teammates first. A native of Dublin, Ireland, who participated in Davis Cup competition for his home country earlier this year, Morrissey is also a tireless promoter of his sport, continually looking for innovative ways to encourage student attendance at home matches.
An International Relations major, Morrissey has maintained a cumulative 3.54 GPA through his first three years.
