STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 2 Stanford lightweight rowing team will be in Gold River, Calif. this Saturday to race in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC) on Lake Natoma.
The Cardinal will hit the water for the final time before IRA Nationals. Stanford has entries in two events this weekend.
The first race of the day for Stanford will be the Women’s Open 8+ at 10:10 a.m. Two Cardinal eights will compete for the top spot. Joining Stanford in the entry list thus far is the University of Colorado.
After a long break, Stanford will send three boats to the starting line at 2:40 p.m. for the Women’s Collegiate 4+ race. In all there are 10 entries for the 10th event of the day. Joining Stanford is Sacramento State, Cal, two boats from San Diego, USC, Washington and the Washington State men.
The Stanford varsity eight has been impressive this season with wins in seven of its nine races. Winners of five straight, the 1V8 is coming off a win over the Cal openweight 3V8 and a WIRA Championship the past three weeks.
This weekend will mark the first time this Spring that Stanford has raced in a fours event. The only fours race in 2013-14 for the Cardinal lightweights was at the Head of the Lagoon on Nov. 10 when the A boat won the race and the other two boats finished fourth and 13th.
Stanford will race in the varsity four event at the IRA Championships in addition to the varsity eight, which looks for its fifth straight national title. THE IRA Nationals will take place May 28-31 in West Windsor, N.J.
