NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Stanford women’s lacrosse team spent much of its four-hour flight from SFO to Chicago’s O’Hare on Wednesday night studying film on iPads, or just plain studying.

But even the most energetic of the Cardinal ran out of steam somewhere on the two-hour bus ride from Chicago to South Bend, Ind., for its NCAA tournament game against Duke on Friday.

The team arrived at 3:30 a.m. ET on Thursday morning.

Still, the long night, and the 90-degree heat and humidity that greeted them for its early afternoon training session, took nothing from out of the team’s focus. The Cardinal is aware that it was given a second chance by receiving an NCAA invitation after losing the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament final to Denver last week, losing the opportunity for an automatic bid.

Stanford has a strong senior class: Anna Kim, Megan Lerner, Lyndsey Munoz, Rachel Ozer, and Nina Swansont. They are outstanding leaders who have experienced some of the best lacrosse seasons in program history, and know what it takes to continue on.

Stanford vs. Duke, Friday, NCAA tournament, first round, 1 p.m. PT. The Cardinal is ready.
