Softblog: Final Series

Release: 05/08/2014

Hello Stanford softball fans!

I hope you all have had a great week and were able to catch some of the action from this past weekend. If not no worries, we have a weekend report coming your way:

  • We defeated No. 2/2 UCLA 12-9 on Friday night, becoming the only team not ranked in the top-five in the country to defeat the Bruins. We also became just the second team to defeat UCLA in Los Angeles this season.
  • We scored 14 runs on the Bruins over three games which is the second-most of any Pac-12 team this year.
  • Tylyn Wells had a great week and led the team with a .600 batting average (6-for-10) over four games. She even pitched the final game of the UCLA series and held the Bruin to two runs through the first 5.2 innings!
  • Erin Ashby also had a great weekend at UCLA, going 4-for-9 (.444) with a double, two walks and two runs.

Although we didn’t come out on top in the series, we were happy to play some awesome games and capture a win against the second-ranked UCLA Bruins.

We want to say a special thank you to the Ashby family! They cooked us an AMAZING meal this weekend and brought it to the hotel. Also, Teagan Gerhart made us some of her heavenly cheesecake to eat on our way home.

We were well represented at UCLA with a bunch of friends and families out at our games. Kylie’s sisters brought out her entire Little League team to our Saturday game and even Coach A’s son Mikey traveled with us!

We had a great weekend in Los Angeles but we now are focused on our next opponent; the Beavers of Oregon State. We have our last conference series at home against the Beavers starting Thursday at 7 p.m. (PT).

This is a very special series because it will be the last time our seniors get to play at home. We are saying goodbye to two of our very special seniors this year: Corey Hanewich and Danielle Miller. Both Corey and Danielle have been incredible role models and leaders throughout their entire careers. They are an instrumental part of this team and we will miss them SO, SO much!

We hope that all of you come out this weekend to support us against Oregon State and to help send off our seniors in their last home games!

Hope to hear you in the stands,

Bon

Quote of the Week: “The hardest skill to acquire in this sport is the one where you compete all out, give it all you have, and you are still getting beat no matter what you do. When you have the killer instinct to fight through that, it is very special.”– Eddie Reese
