STANFORD, Calif. -- Danny Diekroeger was named to the Capital One Academic All-District baseball team,  the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today.

Diekroeger advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The computer science major from Woodside, Calif., carries a 3.80 grade-point average, the fifth-highest mark of any player on the Division I District 8 team.

Diekreoger, Stanford’s everyday first baseman, has been an integral part of the 2014 squad. He has started every game, on his way to 97 straight starts, while hitting in the middle of the order. Diekroeger is batting .293 with a home run and 15 RBI, while also leading the Cardinal in steals with five.

In addition to his impressive numbers both on and off the field, Diekroeger has been a clutch performer. He produced back-to-back walk-off hits to beat Saint Mary’s and Arizona State and also hit a solo home run in a 1-0 win over the Sun Devils during the same week. He was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career for the trio of game-winners.

Stanford is traveling to UCLA this weekend to take on the Bruins in a three-game set. The series starts Friday at 6 p.m.
