STANFORD, Calif. – The Bay Area’s Hannah Farr, a junior two-sport athlete at Stanford, on Wednesday became the first California native to be named women’s lacrosse Player of the Year by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Farr, a graduate of San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Prep, also plays soccer for the Cardinal and was a member of the 2011 NCAA championship soccer team. She was selected lacrosse Player of the Year by conference coaches after leading Stanford to a 13-3 regular-season record and a No. 2 seed in the MPSF tournament, which begins Thursday.
Farr, a native of Hillsborough, leads the Cardinal in draw controls (39), shares the lead in goals (27), and ranks third on the team in assists (8), points (35), and ground balls (27). She is one of two Stanford players among the team’s top five in goals, assists, points, ground balls, draws, and caused turnovers.
Farr, who plays midfield, delivered multiple goals in all five of Stanford’s games against IWLCA Top-20 opponents this year, and is the MPSF leader in game-winners with four. A three-time first-team all-conference selection, Farr also becomes the first MPSF lacrosse player to be in possession of both an MPSF Tournament MVP (2013) and player of the year award in her career.
This is the fourth time Stanford has had an MPSF Player of the Year selection, following Lauren Schmidt in 2009 and 2010, and Leslie Foard in 2011. However, she is the first from California. The conference, which now has 10 teams, has sponsored women’s lacrosse since 2004 and previous winners were from Maryland, Ohio, and New York. The MPSF is the only NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse conference in the Western states.
A science, technology, and society major, Farr carries a 3.61 cumulative grade-point average and has earned conference All-Academic honors in both lacrosse and soccer. Farr is the first to play both sports at Stanford, and is the second Bay Area recruit in Stanford lacrosse history.
