STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was one of 24 teams selected to play in the NCAA East Regional Women’s Golf Championships at SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. , as announced Monday on the Golf Channel.

The 54-hole event will be held May 8-10 at one of the premier golf courses in the state of Florida. It marks the first time Florida State will play host to the event.

No. 9 Stanford is coming off its second-ever Pac-12 Conference title, rallying to win the 2014 event at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. With Stanford’s 5-over 869, the Cardinal (286-291-292) went from third after its second round to raising the conference trophy on the strength of a one-stroke win over Arizona.

The feat came against a premier field which made the Pac-12 Championships one of the best showcases of collegiate golf this season. Six Pac-12 teams were ranked among the top-11 in the nation heading into the tournament, including defending NCAA champion and top-ranked USC.

SouthWood Golf Club will be one of three courses holding court for NCAA Regional action along with Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Tumble Creek at Suncadia Resort (Seattle, Wash.). The three sites will welcome a combined 72 teams and 18 individuals competing to advance to the finals at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

SouthWood Golf Club was created by The St. Joe Company and one of the most celebrated layouts in Florida. Named one of the Top 35 New Courses in America by Golf Magazine and among America’s Best New Courses by Golf Digest, SouthWood was also recognized as one of the top-50 courses for women by Women in Golf Magazine and voted Tallahassee’s Best Golf Course by Tallahassee Magazine.

Masterfully designed by PGA Tour legend Fred Couples and his renowned design partner, architect Gene Bates, SouthWood Golf Club is an upscale public facility nestled among rolling hills, pastureland, and ancient oak trees draped in Spanish moss.
