SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 1 Stanford lightweight rowing team won each of its two races on Saturday at the San Diego Crew Classic.

The Cardinal proved their worth to advance both boats to the Grand Finals. The varsity eight made it look easy against the other four boats in the field, finishing nine seconds ahead of second place Princeton. The gap between the Cardinal and fifth-place Washington State was well over one minute. Stanford clocked a 6:49.880 to move on to Sunday’s Grand Final at 11:50 a.m.

The second varsity eight was entered into the Women’s Open race. Competing in the second heat, the Cardinal once again blew past the rest of the field, winning by over 10 seconds. The Women’s Open Grand Final will take place at 11:10 a.m.

Also of mention was the first ever Stanford alumni boat competing in the Women’s Alumni Final. Made up of former Cardinal lightweights, the group finished in fourth place behind Cal, USD and Gonzaga.
