STANFORD, Calif. The No. 8 Stanford men’s rowing squad will be competing in the San Diego Crew Classic this Saturday and Sunday on Mission Bay.

The Cardinal has had about a month off since starting their spring season with a sweep in five events at the Davis Invitational in Sacramento. They return to action with one of the biggest collegiate regattas in the United States.

The San Diego Crew Classic will get started at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday, but Stanford won’t see action until 8:40 a.m. when they are slated to race in the Men’s Collegiate Invitational against No. 10 Northeastern, No. 17 George Washington, Michigan RA, Trinity and UCSB.

The Cardinal will also be in action in the Men’s Collegiate 2V at 9:50 a.m. They will be joined in the race by Northeastern as well as Gonzaga, UCSD, UCLA, CSULB, Santa Clara and the Cal B boat.

After a couple of hours break, Stanford begins the afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in the Men’s Open event. All eight lanes will be occupied with Stanford in lane six. California RC, UCSD, UCSD alumni, Bainbridge, UCSB, Gonzaga and Wichita State are all entered along with the Cardinal.

Racing is scheduled to start at 7:20 a.m. on Sunday. The top teams from Saturday’s races will advance to Sunday’s Grand Finals. The petite final for the 2V is at 8:40 a.m. while the grand final is at 10:30 a.m. The winner receives the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Memorial Trophy. The men’s collegiate invitational petite race is at 9:40 a.m. and the grand final is at 10:10 a.m. The champion of this race receives the Copley Cup. The grand final of the men’s open is scheduled for 11:20 a.m.

Last season at the San Diego Classic, the Stanford men claimed second place in both the varsity eight and novice eight events. The Cardinal rowers will look to have another impressive showing this year in San Diego.
