Lucy Dikeou, a sophomore midfielder from Denver, was named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals, including the winner, against the Irish.
Kelsey Murray, a freshman attack from Wilmette, Ill., was named MPSF Rookie of the Week after scoring a combined four goals with four assists during road victories over Cornell and Notre Dame.
The four goals equaled the most Dikeou has scored in a game, though this one was huge for the Cardinal, helping lift it five spots to No. 8 in the IWLCA rankings. Dikeou also caused four turnovers, had two ground balls and a draw control to help the Cardinal rally from a 9-6 second-half deficit.
Dikeou’s winner came as she drove through a small window in the defense. As two defenders collapsed on her she bounced a perfectly placed shot inside the right post. Dikeou also helped Stanford beat Cornell, 17-9, earlier in the week with an assist, four ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover.
Murray launched Stanford’s rally at Notre Dame by scoring two goals during a pivotal 4-0 second-half run. She scored the first of those goals and then tied it, 9-9, with 11:40 left. Murray had scored two goals and had four assists against Cornell.
Stanford returns home this weekend with games Friday at 7 p.m., against Denver, and Sunday at 1 p.m. against Colorado. Denver, the 2013 MPSF regular-season champion, joins Stanford among four MPSF teams without a conference loss.
