Stanford sophomore goalie Gabby Stone was named the MPSF/KAP 7 Player of the Week Monday after her career day in the third-ranked Cardinal’s 9-5 victory over top-ranked USC Sunday at Avery Aquatic Center.
Stone made a career-high 13 saves and anchored a stellar Cardinal defensive effort in the win. Stanford held USC, which entered the game as the MPSF’s top offense with 15.9 goals per game, to a season-low five goals. Stone and the Cardinal back line held USC scoreless over a stretch of 7:33 over both ends of halftime, during which the offense reeled off six straight goals to turn a 3-2 deficit into a commanding 8-3 lead.
Last Monday, Stone also made five saves and allowed just one goal in the first half of Stanford’s 12-6 win at No. 20 San Diego State. On the year, she is third in the MPSF with a 6.34 goals-against average.
