STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford hits the road for its first away game since March 4 when the team goes to Berkeley for a Tuesday night contest against California on Pac-12 Networks. It will be a familiar situation for expected starting pitcher Tyler Thorne and the Cardinal, as its last road game came against the Bears with Thorne earning the win.

A 12-day hiatus for finals and a rainout at Saint Mary’s have made the long break from road games possible.

The Cardinal has gone 5-4 since last beating the Bears 11-1, including a 3-3 mark in Pac-12 contests. Mark Marquess, The Clarke and Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball, now sits at 1,500 wins after winning his 1,500th against Cal.

Cal has been less fortunate, posting a 6-9 record, but swept visiting Utah last weekend.

Stanford was also looking for a Pac-12 sweep on Sunday, until Oregon put up nine runs to avoid three straight defeats with a 9-2 win. The Cardinal was up 2-0 in the series after its starting pitching and a walk-off sac fly helped sweep a Friday doubleheader.

The starting rotation has continued to improve and enters Tuesday with a 7-5 record and 2.86 ERA during the 2014 campaign. Tomorrow will mark the 22nd straight game a freshman will get the start on the mound, as Stanford looks to improve seven-game winning streak versus the Bears.

Fellow freshman Alex Dunlap is riding an eight-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .360 average. He also has nine RBI in his first 50 collegiate at-bats.

Austin Slater (.333), Alex Blandino (.324), Danny Diekroeger (.314) and Brett Michael Doran (.313) are batting over .300. Blandino tied a career high with four RBI during the last trip to Berkeley.

The Cardinal, which has already played 12 games against ranked opponents, visits highly-touted Oregon State this weekend in Corvallis, Ore.
