STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford boat raced an 18-team field by shooting a 14-under Sunday, winning The Goodwin by 20 shots for its third victory and eighth top-10 finish in as many events this season.

The host Cardinal (268-281-266) checked in at 25-under to better Pac-12 Conference rivals USC and UCLA, who finished at 5-under. Washington (-1) was fourth with Oregon (+3) and UAB (+3) tying for fifth.

The three-day, 54-hole event at Stanford Golf Course was renamed this season after former head coach Wally Goodwin, who led the Cardinal to the 1994 national title and mentored standouts such as Tiger Woods, Casey Martin and Notah Begay.

Though he was not recruited nor coached by Goodwin, one can add Patrick Rodgers’ name to that list of Cardinal legends. Rodgers won The Goodwin with a 14-under 196, including a final-round 64. Rodgers had seven birdies during his final stretch with a lone bogey coming on the par-4 ninth. Rodgers called a one-stroke penalty on himself when the ball moved after addressing his birdie putt.

Rodgers’ third straight victory brings him two shy of Tiger Woods’ school-record 11 career titles. The chase continues when Stanford travels to the Western Intercollegiate (April 12-13) in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Rodgers was joined in the top-5 by third-place Cameron Wilson, who streaked through with a bogey-free 5-under 65 to close the tournament. Wilson, who signed a 6-under for the event, entered Sunday tied for 12th and jumped nine spots.

Tying for fourth was Maverick McNealy, with the freshman going 66-69-70 for a 5-under on his home course.

In 16th was Viraat Badhwar, who tied a course record with a 61 while qualifying for the tournament earlier in the week. Badhwar birdied 7-8-9 to finish at 3-under on the day and even-par overall.

Jim Liu tied for 28th after an outstanding Sunday that saw the freshman card a 65, including a 3-under front half and an eagle on 16.
