STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was awarded team and individual honors as part of the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the organization Wednesday.

The Cardinal was well-represented with eight honorees, including Hope Burke, Dulcie Davies, Shannon Herold, Elise Ogle, Kasey Quon, Anna Simmons, Fran Tew and Hannah Thiemann.

To be recognized as an Academic Squad member, a student-athlete must achieve a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.

In addition, Stanford was honored for its collective team GPA as a 2013 National Academic Squad. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.

The Cardinal recorded its fifth consecutive 15-win season during 2013, finishing 16-5 overall and claiming its fifth straight NorPac West regular season title. Stanford spent each week ranked 13th or higher in the Longstreth/NFHCA Coaches’ Poll, including matching a program-best No. 6 ranking in two consecutive weeks.

One of the defining attributes of the 2013 team was its focus on team defense and keeping opponents off the scoreboard. Stanford recorded 10 shutouts and was ranked in the top five in goals-against average and save percentage for almost the entire season. The Cardinal ranked first in goals-against average and save percentage multiple times throughout the year.

Junior Kelsey Harbin anchored the backline and earned Longstreth/NFHCA First-Team All-America honors, was an All-Region selection and was named the Norpac West Player of the Year. Head coach Tara Danielson claimed her third NorPac Coach of the Year honor in the past three years.

Expectations will remain high for a Stanford team that returns all but three seniors in 2014.
