FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Stanford finished among the top four in each of Wednesday evening’s relays to open the Pac-12 Conference Men’s Swimming Championships at King County Aquatic Center.

David Nolan, Mason Shaw, Connor Black and Thomas Stephens teamed for an NCAA A-cut in the 200 medley relay, tapping fourth in 1:25.99.

To cap off the evening in the 800 free relay, the Cardinal logged another NCAA A-cut by going 6:20.58, nearly 10 seconds under its seed time. Nolan was joined on the relay squad by Tom Kremer, Chris Pickard and Drew Cosgarea.

"The relays were solid and got us the points we were looking for," said Ted Knapp, Stanford's Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming. "There were some lifetime-best relay splits, with some that were a little off. We're still very much in the hunt for a conference title."

Through two events, Stanford is fourth with 62 points. USC holds a slim margin over the rest of the field, leading the competition with 72 points. Arizona (68) is tied with Cal for second. Results from the diving portion of the championships – which took place last week – have yet to be factored into the standings.

Arizona’s 200 medley relay team touched in a meet-record 1:23.50 for the nation’s fastest time on the season. It was the first-ever 200 medley relay victory at the championship meet for Arizona, breaking Cal’s streak of six straight wins in the event, which had previously only been won by Cal and Stanford.

The 800 free relay saw another meet record fall, with USC posting a second consecutive win in the event and the second-best time in the country by touching at 6:12.54.

The Pac-12 meet continues Thursday with preliminary events for the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free beginning at 11 a.m. (PT). Finals for all three events – along with timed finals in the 200 free relay – start at 6 p.m.
