Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame

STANFORD, Calif.- Dick Gould, Stanford’s John L. Hinds Director of Tennis, will be inducted into the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 28, as part of the organization’s 14th annual ceremony.

The event will take place at the Oakland Marriott Hotel from 6-10 p.m. on 1001 Broadway in Oakland.

Joining Gould as inductees are the following: Fred Biletnikoff (football), Ruthie Bolton (basketball), Len Rodhe (football), Joe Roberts (basketball) and Joe Rudi (baseball).

Gould has served in his current role following 38 years (1966-2004) at the helm of Stanford, guiding the Cardinal to 17 NCAA Team Championships and finishing his career as the winningest coach in school history at 776-148. During Gould’s tenure, Stanford produced 10 NCAA singles champions, seven NCAA doubles champions and 50 All-Americans.

The Mission of the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame is to broaden the public’s understanding of African American/Ethnic history and the role of diversity and cultural tolerance in the growth of professional sports. The Hall of Fame gives the world the opportunity to better understand the impact African American and other ethnic groups throughout the world have had on American sports and society.

The Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2000 in Oakland to broaden the public understanding of African American and ethnic history and the role of diversity and cultural tolerance in the growth of professional sports. Over 180 retired athletes of color have been enshrined, as well as coaches. Over 120 community leaders have been honored at our induction ceremonies. In addition, more than 125 sports legends and over 50 current players support our Hall of Fame Programs.
