STANFORD, Calif. – The College Squash Association released the brackets for the 2014 Women’s National Team Championships on Tuesday.
Stanford received the No. 7 seed in the Howe Cup (A Division) and is scheduled to face No. 2 Trinity at 12:15 p.m. (ET). This marks the seventh consecutive year the Cardinal has been ranked in the top eight to qualify for the Howe Cup.
Nationals will be held at Princeton, N.J. Feb. 21-23, The matches will take place at Princeton’s Jadwin Courts. The last time the Cardinal went on the road it was to Princeton three weeks ago. Stanford experienced Princeton’s courts in losses to the Tigers and Brown.
The Cardinal posted a 6-6 overall record during the regular season and is coming off two victories over Cal. When Stanford met Trinity earlier this season the Bantams earned a 9-0 sweep. The match was played at Yale in New Haven, Conn.
Last year in the Howe Cup, Stanford entered as the No. 7 seed and played No. 2 Harvard in the first round. The Cardinal lost 9-0 and then fell to No. 6 Cornell, 5-4, in the consolation round.
Stanford will be looking for its first opening round victory in the postseason since the 2007 Kurtz Cup (B Division) when they knocked off Mount Holyoke, 6-3.
Leading the way individually this season for the Cardinal is junior Madeleine Gill at the No. 1 position. She has tallied a 6-6 record at the top position. She is tied with freshman CC Ho (6-4) for the most individual victories this year.
Joining Stanford and Trinity at this year’s Howe Cup will be No. 1 Harvard, No. 3 Penn, No. 4 Yale, No. 5 Princeton, No. Cornell and No. 8 Dartmouth.
