Senior two-meter Annika Dries of the Stanford women’s water polo team was named MPSF/KAP 7 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
It is Stanford’s second MPSF honor of the season, as Kiley Neushul claimed the honor on Feb. 3.
Dries scored a team-high 12 goals last week as the second-ranked Cardinal rolled to road victories at Santa Clara, Pacific and UC Davis. The Laguna Beach native netted hat tricks in each win, culminating in a six-goal performance in Saturday night’s 17-5 win at UC Davis.
On the defensive side of the pool, Dries helped the Cardinal hold both of its Saturday opponents, Pacific and UC Davis, scoreless into the third period. Through its 7-0 start to the year, the Cardinal defense is second in the MPSF with just 5.17 goals allowed per game, while Dries leads the Cardinal with 19 goals. Her 2.71 goals per game ranks fifth in the conference as well.
This weekend Stanford will travel to Irvine to play in the UCI Invitational, opening up the draw Saturday at 8 a.m. against Pacific at Corona del Mar High School.
