STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s gymnastics was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 preseason poll Wednesday, as voted on by the conference’s eight head coaches.
The Cardinal received 37 points in the poll, following UCLA with 46 points and Utah with 45 points. All three teams are ranked in the top 10 of GymInfo’s national preseason coaches poll with UCLA ranked fourth, Utah sixth and Stanford ninth. Oregon State rounds out the top half of the conference poll, receiving the fourth-most votes with 31.
The second half of the poll is led by Arizona with 31 votes, followed by Washington (18), California (17) and Arizona State (8).
All eight Pac-12 teams are ranked in GymInfo's preseason top 25. Fourth-ranked UCLA leads the conference in the rankings, followed by No. 6 Utah and No. 9 Stanford. Oregon State is ranked 12th, followed by No. 17 Arizona, No. 20 Washington, No. 22 California and No. 25 Arizona State.
Stanford is coming off a successful 2013 season, going 15-7 in the regular season and making its 10th NCAA Championships appearance in the past 13 years. Stanford returns 11 gymnasts from that team and welcomes a talented group of six freshmen.
Stanford will pursue its seventh trip to the Super Six in program history this year. The Cardinal is one of seven teams in the country to make six Super Six appearances in the past 12 years.
The Cardinal begins its regular season Jan. 5 at the NorCal Quad Meet at Sacramento State before opening its home slate Jan. 12 against Georgia.
