STANFORD, Calif. – After a successful 2013 season that included Stanford’s 10th NCAA Championships appearance in the past 13 years, the Cardinal enters 2014 ranked ninth in GymInfo’s top 25 preseason coaches’ poll.
The Cardinal continued its success among the nation’s best in 2013, finishing 15-7 in the regular season and competing in its 30th consecutive NCAA Regional.
Stanford returns 12 gymnasts, including five All-Americans, and welcomes a talented group of six freshmen after graduating two seniors from the 2013 roster.
All eight Pac-12 teams are ranked in the preseason top 25. Fourth-ranked UCLA leads the conference in the rankings, followed by No. 6 Utah and Stanford. Oregon State is ranked 12th, followed by No. 17 Arizona, No. 20 Washington, No. 22 California and No. 25 Arizona State.
Stanford will see eight teams ranked in the preseason top 25, including nonconference opponents No. 8 Georgia (Jan. 12) and No. 2 Alabama (March 7).
Stanford will pursue its seventh trip to the Super Six in program history this year. The Cardinal is one of seven teams in the country to make six Super Six appearances in the past 12 years.
Stanford takes the floor for the first time this season when it plays host to an exhibition against San Jose State on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. (PT) at the gymnastics training center in the Ford Center.
The Cardinal begins its regular season Jan. 5 at the NorCal Quad Meet at Sacramento State before opening its home slate against Georgia.
