STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford middle blocker Inky Ajanaku has been named the final Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week for the 2013 season, the organization announced today.
Ajanaku, who was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, averaged 4.29 kills, 5.21 points per set and 1.43 blocks per set, while hitting .489 as Stanford swept Arizona on the road before defeating California in four sets at home last week. At Arizona, Ajanaku set a new season high with 15 kills on a .565 attack percentage. She also led all players against the Wildcats with seven blocks as the Cardinal recorded its 19th sweep of the season. At home against Cal, she again registered 15 kills for Stanford as the team notched its fourth-consecutive win over the Golden Bears.
Stanford closed out the regular season with a 24-5 overall record and second-place finish in the Pac-12 (17-3). Stanford was undefeated (9-0) in the month of November.
It is the first national weekly honor for Ajanaku and 16th all-time for the Cardinal. The honor comes just one week after senior Rachel Williams received the national award.
The Cardinal plays host to Hampton, which is making its first postseason appearance, in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. The winner will take on the winner of the Alabama-Oklahoma match on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
