Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike of the Stanford women’s basketball team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It is her second award in as many weeks and also extends her conference record to 11 Pac-12 weekly honors.

Ogwumike and the Cardinal went 2-1 last week, falling at No. 1 Connecticut Monday before bouncing back with victories over Cal Poly and UC Davis this past Friday and Sunday, respectively. Over the three games, Ogwumike averaged 26.7 points and 13.0 rebounds while shooting 59.6 percent from the field (34-for-57). The Cypress, Texas native also posted double-doubles in all three games.

Ogwumike opened the week with 16 points and 13 rebounds in Monday’s 76-57 loss in Storrs, but Friday against Cal Poly enjoyed a career night, setting new personal bests in points (36) and field goals (15) as she went 15-for-19 from the field as well as grabbing 11 rebounds in Stanford’s 86-51 victory. She finished the weekend with 28 points in 13-of-22 shooting and 15 rebounds in Sunday’s 66-48 win over UC Davis.

Through the season’s opening four games Ogwumike leads the Pac-12 with 27.5 points and 13.3 rebounds per game and is third in the conference with a 65.2 field-goal percentage.

No. 5/6 Stanford (3-1) heads out of town for its next four games beginning with Saturday’s contest at Texas at 10:30 a.m. PT. Following that, the Cardinal travels to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the 2013 Hardwood Tournament of Hope, taking on No. 18/22 Purdue, Florida Gulf Coast and South Dakota State Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 24-26, respectively.

The Cardinal road trip also features a chance at history as head coach Tara VanDerveer is currently just three wins away from becoming the fifth women’s basketball head coach to join the 900-Win Club.
