Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike added another accomplishment to her career Monday, being named Pac-12 Player of the Week for a conference-record 10th time.
Ogwumike earned her latest honor after posting her 59th-career double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds in Saturday’s 83-71 victory at Boston College. She also went 11-for-12 from the field and made three steals with a pair of blocks for the third-ranked Cardinal. The 30 points also marked Ogwumike’s third-career 30-point game.
A consensus preseason All-American and national player of the year candidate, Ogwumike earned six of her 10 player of the week honors last season, setting a single-season record. This week’s honor pushes Ogwumike past the nine earned by former Stanford All-Americans Candice Wiggins (2004-08) and Jayne Appel (2007-10).
It is also the 90th all-time weekly Pac-12 honor earned by a Stanford player.Ogwumike and the Cardinal take on defending national champion and top-ranked Connecticut today at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2. The contest opens ESPN’s 2013 Tip-Off Marathon and is just the Cardinal’s second visit all-time to Gampel Pavilion.
