Complete Capital One Academic All-District Football Teams

STANFORD, Calif. –
Four Stanford football players were named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday. Ben Rhyne, Jordan Pratt, Johnny Caspers and Jordan Richards each received the honor.

The four Stanford players and all first-team Academic All-District honorees from the eight districts advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Stanford tied Southern Utah University for the most student-athletes honored in District VIII.

Rhyne, a senior punter who has started every game for the Cardinal, carries a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average as a biomechanical engineering major. The Charlotte, N.C., native has shined on the field, as well, averaging 41.4 yards per punt. Fourteen of his punts have been downed inside the 20 and seven have gone for more than 50 yards.

Pratt is one of two receivers on the District VIII squad. Primarily used as a blocker, Pratt caught his first pass of the season in a 24-10 win over No. 13 UCLA on Oct. 19. The junior majors in atmosphere and energy engineering and owns a 3.84 grade-point average.

Richards has shined on one of the top defensive units in the country from the strong safety position. The junior with a 3.41 grade-point average, while majoring in public policy, leads Stanford with three interceptions. He has helped the Cardinal rank 19th in scoring defense (19.4 points allowed per game) and 24th in total defense (353.4 yards allowed per game) with 42 tackles, which ranks fifth on the team.

Offensive lineman Johnny Caspers rounds out the Cardinal on the team with a 3.42 grade-point average, while being undeclared on a major. The Glen Ellyn, Ill., native has appeared in all eight Stanford games to date.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.

No. 6 Stanford plays host to No. 2 Oregon at Stanford Stadium Thursday at 6 p.m. (PT). The matchup with Pac-12 title implications will be aired nationally on ESPN.
