Release: 10/24/2013

After three matches and nearly three weeks away, Stanford men's soccer returns to Laird Q. Cagan Stadium Friday night, hosting San Francisco on non-conference action at 7 p.m.

The Cardinal (6-4-2) has an eye on snapping its three-match winless streak come Friday. Last Sunday the Cardinal fell 1-0 at No. 1 California after a controversial penalty call in the 86th minute led to the winner for the Golden Bears.

The previous week Stanford fell 1-0 at UCLA and played San Diego State to a 3-3 draw. Those results, combined with last Sunday's match in Berkeley, completed the Cardinal's first go-round through the Pac-12's double-round robin schedule. At the halfway point Stanford sits fourth on the table with four points from five matches (1-3-1), and come the second half of the slate will face UCLA (Nov. 1), San Diego State (Nov. 3) and California (Nov. 13) at home and Washington (Nov. 8) and Oregon State (Nov. 10) away.

The Cardial defense over the past two weeks has played fearlessly against pair of top-five teams in UCLA and California and come out with a greater confidence for the experience. Senior goalie Drew Hutchins and the Cardinal back line conceded just once to each team in a pair of 1-0 losses, and will aim for the team's fourth clean sheet of the season Friday night against San Francisco.

On the offensive side Zach Batteer paces the Cardinal with five goals on the year while freshman Jordan Morris leads the squad with 13 points off of four goals and five assists.

San Francisco enters Friday's match with a record of 5-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in West Coast Conference play. The Dons boast four players that share the team lead with a pair of goals apiece, while in goal the tandem of Chase Hauser and Connor Gaal has combined to shut out five opponents and post a goals-against average of 1.04.
