Senior goalkeeper Drew Hutchins of the Stanford men’s soccer team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week Tuesday.
Hutchins picked up a pair of clean sheets over the weekend as the Cardinal defeated College of Charleston (2-0) and Colgate (1-0) at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The wins helped extend Stanford’s (4-1-1) winning streak to four matches, the team’s longest such streak since Sept. 16-26, 2010.
The Cardinal will attempt to win five straight for the first time since 2009 this Friday night when it visits UC Santa Barbara for a 7 p.m. match. The contest will be streamed live on www.NSCAATV.com.
The Morrisville, Pa. native made four saves in Friday’s win over College of Charleston, being forced to go horizontal multiple times over the final seven minutes to preserve both the win and the shutout. He was called into action twice more in Sunday’s shutout of Colgate and has now marshaled the Cardinal defense to three clean sheets over the past four matches.
On the year Hutchins has played all 560 minutes for Stanford this season, boasting a 0.96 goals-against average. He has allowed just one goal over Stanford’s current four-match winning streak.
