STANFORD, Calif. -- The No. 3 Stanford women’s soccer team (4-0-1) is playing its best soccer of the young season as it heads into a nonconference match against visiting Iowa State (4-2, entering a Thursday night match at Santa Clara). Stanford will attempt to extend its 70-match home unbeaten streak, the second-longest in NCAA Division I history, behind only North Carolina’s streak of 84 from 1986-94.

The Season Thus Far: Stanford has incorporated a talented a freshman class into its lineup, starting four in a 3-0 victory over No. 16 Maryland on Sunday, and having six on the field when the Cardinal scored its first three goals in a 4-0 victory over Loyola Marymount on Friday. Among the freshmen, Maddie Bauer has started all six matches in central defense and Jane Campbell has not allowed a goal in three appearances, including two starts.

Sunday’s Opponent, Iowa State: The Cyclones broke to a 3-0 start after victories over South Dakota State, South Dakota, and Western Illinois. Iowa State then suffered shutout losses to Minnesota and Iowa before rebounding with a 4-0 victory over North Dakota on Sunday. Jennifer Dominguez leads the team with three goals. Iowa State has allowed more than one goal only once, and goalkeeper Maddie Jobe entered the weekend tied for first in school history in careers shutouts (16). The Cyclones went 10-10 last season, and 1-7 in Big 12 play.
The Iowa State Series: It doesn’t exist. This will be the first meeting between Stanford and Iowa State. However, Stanford owns an 11-1 record against teams currently in the Big 12. The only loss came last year to West Virginia, 1-0.

Verloo, Gleason Approach 100: Stanford’s fifth-year seniors Courtney Verloo, a forward, and Aly Gleason, a goalkeeper, have a record of 98-4-5 in their collegiate career. They can earn their 100th victory as soon as Thursday, in a home match against Saint Mary’s.
