STANFORD, Calif. (Aug. 21, 2013) – Stanford University alum and veteran broadcaster Scott Reiss has been named the new voice of Cardinal football and men’s basketball as announced today by Learfield Sports’ Cardinal Sports LLC, Stanford Athletics’ multimedia rights holder.
This appointment marks a return to Stanford for Reiss, who was the play-by-play broadcaster for Cardinal football, men’s basketball and baseball games on KZSU-FM from 1992-94 while finishing his undergraduate and graduate degrees. For more than two decades, Reiss has been a well-known collegiate sports broadcaster both statewide and nationally.
Reiss has served the last five years as anchor/reporter at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, hosting Giants, A’s and Sharks pregame and postgame shows, as well as covering Stanford sports on a regular basis and handling play-by-play duties for Pac-12 and West Coast Conference games. He has also hosted sports talk radio at 95.7-FM “The Game,” including “Bay Area Gameday,” a weekly college football and basketball show.
Reiss’ experience nationally includes an eight-year stint with ESPN, where he anchored several shows including SportsCenter, College Football Live and College Gamenight and handled play-by-play for ESPN Radio college football and ESPN-TV college basketball. He also hosted College Gameday on ESPN Radio.
“We are delighted to welcome Scott Reiss as the voice of Stanford football and men’s basketball,” said Bernard Muir, Stanford’s Jacquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics. “Scott’s familiarity with and knowledge of Stanford adds another dimension to his overall ability as a terrific broadcaster. Scott will capture the attention of our fan base as he has done these past five years at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.”
“I am thrilled and humbled to be returning to Stanford in a broadcast capacity,” said Reiss. “It’s been a dream since my undergraduate days to call Cardinal football and basketball games professionally, and I am so proud to once again be associated with the finest athletic program in the nation.”
