Training Camp Photo Album | 2013 Roster

Stanford men's soccer reported to The Farm this week for the opening of training camp as the 2013 campaign is right around the corner. So far during week one of training the squad went through orientation meetings, took team photos and has been working diligently on the training ground in preparation for the new season.

The Cardinal will take advantage of every minute of training time as it hosts Sonoma State in exhibition action next Wednesday, Aug. 21 at  7 p.m. at Steuber Rugby Stadium. Stanford's regular-season opener is set for Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. against 2012 College Cup participant Maryland at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The opening weekend will conclude with a 4 p.m. match against 2012 national finalist Georgetown which will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

Wednesday, the team put in a late-morning workoutwhich culminated in a full-field 11-on-11 drill. Head coach Jeremy Gunn, entering his second season at the Stanford helm, oversaw his charges from the center of the field, watching as the Cardinal worked on its possession, service and attack. Blowing the whistle to end the drill, the Cardinal players took a water break then concluded the session with cool-down stretches guided by sports performance coach Jason Quan.

A few hours later, the team re-assembled at Cagan Stadium for team photos. Gunn quickly organized the players into position for the team photograph, followed by class shots and a group shot of the coaching staff of Gunn and assistants John Smith, Mike Graczyk and Nick Kirchhof.

The players then marched to the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame in the Arrillaga Family Sports Center to take their mugshots for the new season. Once everyone had taken their turn on the stool, it was time to heda back out to Cagan for more work.

This season the Cardinal, which went 9-8-1 in 2012 and finished third on the Pac-12 table, hosts 11 matches at Cagan Stadium. Additionally, eight of Stanford's matches this year will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks, giving the Cardinal nationwide exposure as it aims for a return to the NCAA Tournament.

In 2013 Stanford returns All-Pac-12 performers in midfielders JJ Koval and Aaron Kovar, and forward Zach Batteer, as well as incumbent starting goalkeeper Drew Hutchins.

Joining this group is a talented eight-man group of freshman which makes its Stanford debut in 2013. Goalies Nico Corti (Westlake Village, Calif./Agoura HS) and Andrew Epstein (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre HS), forwards Mark Verso (Tujunga, Calif./St. Francis HS) and Jordan Morris (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island HS), midfielder Trevor Hyman (Irvine, Calif./Vista Grande HS) and defenders Cameron Chesnutt (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS), Marshall Glover (Alpharetta, Ga./Westminster Schools) and  Brian Nana-Sinkam (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township HS) begin their Cardinal careers this week and bring solid club and prep credentials to the fold.
