STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women's volleyball team has been chosen by the conference coaches to defend its Pac-12 title in 2013. The Cardinal, which has won six of the last seven conference championships, returns all of its starters from last year's team that went 30-4 and advanced to the Regional Final in the NCAA Tournament.

Stanford garnered 10 of a possible 11 first-place votes, earning 120 points overall. USC, which picked up the other two first-place votes, was the runner-up with 111 point, while Washington came in third with 99 points. Rounding out the top-5 was Oregon (91), last year’s NCAA runner-up, and UCLA (76).

Arizona State totaled 65 points to take sixth, followed by California with 59 points in seventh. Arizona (52), Utah (49), Colorado (30), Washington State (21) and Oregon State (19) complete the poll.

Stanford returns 11 letterwinners to the squad, which captured its conference-best 15th Pac-12 title last season. Senior middle blocker Carly Wopat was a first team AVCA All-American, while sophomore middle blocker Inky Ajanaku was an honorable mention AVCA All-American in 2012. Joining Wopat and Ajanaku on the All-Pac-12 Team last season were outside hitters Jordan Burgess and Brittany Howard. All four players have been named preseason All-Pac-12 players to begin the 2013 campaign.

The regular season opens on Friday, Aug. 30. Stanford will travel to Santa Barbara, Calif., to face the UCSB Gauchos at Noon.

Following are the results of the preseason coaches' poll and the preseason All-Pac-12 squad. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams or players (first-place votes in parentheses):
