STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s fencers Fracesca Bassa (USA) and Vivian Kong (Hong Kong) competed at the 2013 World University Games earlier this summer in Kazan, Russia.
Bassa earned a top-32 finish, falling 15-14 to Choi Eng Sook of Korea, while Kong placed in the top 64 after dropping a 15-11 decision to Katarzyna Dabrowa of Poland.
The U.S. women’s epee team finished in the top eight in the team competition.
Bassa will return to Stanford in the fall for her senior campaign, while Kong will enter her second season. The duo comprised the Cardinal’s women’s epee squad in 2013 and boasted a combined record of 121-27.
Kong earned first-team All-America honors after placing third at the NCAA Championships and Bassa was named to the second team after finishing seventh.
