U.S. Open - Results

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford finished first among 72 men’s swimming programs at the U.S. Open held July 30-Aug. 3 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif. The 267 points posted by the Cardinal topped the field during the long-course meters event.

Tom Kremer checked in at 12th among individual scorers with 38 points as David Nolan and Bobby Bollier posted 20 points apiece.

With the Cardinal women (228) taking second in its respective division, the two teams combined for the highest score (495) of any American program.

Stanford won the 4x100 free relay (Chris Pickard, Aaron Wayne, Jason Dunford, Nolan - 3:19.88) and the B-unit claimed 11th (Bollier, Mitchell Stoehr, Jeff Garnier, Drew Cosgarea – 3:25.60). The Cardinal 4x200 free relay (Bollier, Thomas Stephens, Nolan, Pickard - 7:24.26) added another win with its B-unit touching second (Cosgarea, Garnier, Stoehr, Bryan Offutt – 7:26.22).

On day four, Stanford was sixth (Cosgarea, Christian Brown, Bollier, Thomas Stephens – 3:43.51) and ninth (Gunderson, Nolan, Pickard, Wayne – 3:47.16) in the 4x100 medley relay.

Bollier was third with a 1:57.32 in the 200 fly, touching just in front of Kremer (1:57.73). Chris Pickard (1:57.57) was 14th.

Kremer (1:48.93) was third and Cosgarea (1:49.37) finished ninth to give Stanford two top-10 finishers in the 200 free. Kremer added a 20th-place swim in the 100 free (50.17). The 100 free also featured Pickard (50.26 – 14th), Nolan (49.50 – 17th) and Wayne (50.55 – 23rd).

Three Cardinal finished in the top 20 of the 400 IM behind the efforts of Max Williamson (4:20.74 – 9th), Offutt (4:22.05 – 11th) and Robert Hommel (4:24.64 – 18th).

Six found themselves in the top 20 of the 100 fly. Dunford (52.48) was sixth with Pickard (53.52) claiming 11th. Joining the top-20 crew were Bollier (53.86 – 13th), Wayne (53.97 – 15th), Nolan (52.93 – 17th) and Kremer (53.23 – 18th).

Pickard went 1:49.98 in the 200 free for 13th, Stephens (1:50.18) was 15th and Garnier (1:52.27) was 23rd in the field. Pickard touched 16th in the 50 free with a 23.15.

Danny Thomson (15:22.85) took sixth in the 1,500 free and 12th in the 800 free (8:08.26).

Williamson (2:16.04) claimed 15th in the 200 breast and Mason Shaw was 15th with his 2:15.60 in the prelims. Shaw was disqualified at his second shot in the event. Brown (1:02.80) added a 17th-place swim in the 100 breast.

After placing fourth in the prelims of the 200 back, Nolan came through in 2:03.28 for eighth in the finals. Cosgarea (1:59.79) took ninth with the top time in the B-finals. Nolan checked in at ninth in the 100 back (55.07).

Top-20 honors in the 200 IM went to Kremer (2:02.07 – 10th), Williamson (2:03.11 – 13th), Hommel (2:03.52 – 15th) and Gray Umbach (2:04.88 – 16th).
