CULVER CITY, Calif. – Pac-12 Conference Media Day means football season is around the corner. And after Friday's event within the gated walls of Sony Studios, the corner was turned.

Along with head coach David Shaw, inside linebacker Shayne Skov and offensive tackle David Yankey went through the gauntlet of interviews, photo sessions and video shoots for the several hundred credentialed media members.

Rule changes, potential student-athlete stipends, aiming for a national championship and reloading last season's Rose Bowl championship team were among the topics discussed.

The two-day event began Thursday afternoon at the swank SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, where Skov and Yankey went in front of the camera for a number of promotional and feature items for the Pac-12. Dinner was served at nearby Lawry's, a familiar spot for the Cardinal. Lawry's plays host to the Beef Bowl, held annually during the days leading up to the Rose Bowl.

Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 Conference in close voting among media members with the announcement coming Friday morning.

The voters picked Oregon to win the Pac-12 North division with 15 of 26 first place votes. The Ducks were further picked to win the conference title game by 14 voters. Stanford was the runner-up in each case, with 11 voters touting the Cardinal as Pac-12 North champs and eight picking David Shaw’s team to win the title game.

In the Pac-12 South, UCLA edged Arizona State as favorites and three voters picked the Bruins to win the conference championship game.

The media poll has correctly selected the Conference Champion in 28 of 52 previous polls, including 11 of the last 13.

The 2013 Pac-12 Championship Football Game will take place Saturday, December 7 at 4:45 p.m. or 5 p.m. PT and telecast to a national audience on ESPN or ABC. The Championship game will match the winner of the North Division vs. the winner of the South Division.
