Stanford men's water polo will have four of its number participating at the FINA Junior World Championships next month as Adam Abdulhamid '16, Bret Bonanni '15, Alex Bowen '15 and incoming freshman Jackson Kimbell were all named to the USA roster.
The men's event is set for Aug. 12-18 in Szombathely, Hungary as the USA opens group play against Spain. Preliminary-round play will continue against Slovakia and Russia ahead of the knockout rounds.
Abdulhamid, Bonanni and Kimbell were all part of the Junior National Team roster that saw action in exhibitions during the FINA World League Prelims in late May, while Bowen will join the squad following his action at the FINA World Championships currently taking place in Barcelona.
For Abdulhamid, it will be his second world championship event of the past nine months, as he was part of the USA team that took eighth at the inaugural Youth World Championships in December 2012.
Bonanni, prior to the World League Prelims, saw action with the Senior National Team at the UANA World Championship Qualification Tournament in January and February, then continued on with the senior roster at the FINA World League Super Final in June.
Bowen concludes a busy international year which began with the UANA World Championship Qualification Tournament. The FINA Junior World Championship will mark his first action with the Junior National Team this year after spending the past seven months on the senior roster.
