STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford redshirt senior Ryan Mango and volunteer assistant coach Brandon Precin will be competing in the World Team Trials at Gallagher-IBA Arena in Stillwater, Okla., June 21-23, for a chance to represent the United States at the 2013 Senior World Championships.
The event will feature the top hopefuls for the 2016 Olympic Games in the Senior division, as well as future Olympic hopefuls in the FILA Junior division.
Both wrestlers qualified for the event by placing at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas in late April. Precin finished third in Freestyle at 55kg (121 pounds), while Mango took fifth in Greco-Roman at 60kg (132 pounds).
In the Freestyle division, Precin will have to wrestle in a mini-tournament on Saturday. The winner of that tournament will face U.S. Open champion Obe Blanc in a best-of-three series for a spot on the U.S. World Team.
Mango will compete in a Challenge Tournament in the Greco-Roman division at 60kg. Should he reach the finals, he would wrestle the other finalist in a best-of-three series to earn the U.S. World Team spot.The 2013 Senior World Championships will take place September 16-22 in Budapest, Hungary.
