Stanford to Meet Oklahoma State in Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

STANFORD, Calif.-- The Stanford Cardinal, which finished the 2011 regular season with an 11-1 record and ranked fourth in the final Bowl Championship Series standings, has accepted an invitation to play in the 41st Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Monday, January 2 against the third-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys of the Big 12 Conference.

Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The game will be televised by ESPN.

The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will mark the first meeting between Stanford and Oklahoma State.

"We are very pleased to have been invited to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and we are proud to represent the Pac-12 Conference in the Bowl Championship Series," said Stanford's Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics Bob Bowlsby. "We are excited to compete against Oklahoma State University and we look forward to a great game."

Stanford (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12 Conference), ranked fourth in the AP and USA Today Coaches polls, is making its third straight bowl appearance and 23rd overall, having compiled a 10-11-1 record in previous postseason games. This marks the Cardinal's second consecutive BCS bowl appearance following last year's 40-12 victory over Virginia Tech in the Discover Orange Bowl.

Oklahoma State, ranked third behind LSU and Alabama in the final BCS standings, finished the regular season with an 11-1 overall record, including an 8-1 mark in the Big 12 Conference. The Cowboys are coming off a 44-10 victory over Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference championship game.

The matchup features two of the highest scoring teams in the nation, as the Cowboys rank second among FBS teams in scoring average at 49.3 points a game, while the Cardinal's 43.6 scoring average ranks fifth nationally.
