Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium is home to the Stanford men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's lacrosse programs. Known as Maloney Field until the 2007 season, when the Cagan name was added, the facility has played host to numerous collegiate, professional, and international events, including the Women's World Cup in the summer of 1999, when it was used as a practice field. It has also been the venue for the U.S. national teams, a number of international and professional soccer events, the Mexican Women's National Team, and the local San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
The facility underwent an initial renovation in 1997, which included an upgrade of the playing surface at Maloney Field (115 yd. x 75 yd.). Adjacent to the competition field is Ueland Field, a natural grass practice field that measures 125 yd. x 115 yd.
Phase III of the development was completed in summer 2010 and consisted of the installation of Johnson Field, a 115 yd. x 75 yd. all-weather turf practice field (lighting to be installed in summer 2011). In addition, Cagan Stadium was enclosed with permanent fencing and windscreens. Finally, the drainage, irrigation, and natural grass playing surface at Maloney Field were improved to meet international soccer standards.
The fourth phase of the renovation is scheduled for completion in October 2012. It consists of the construction of the Leo Weinstein Field House, which will include bleachers and a press box, as well as space for team locker rooms, a satellite sports medicine area, referee locker rooms, and public restrooms. The bleachers were completed and opened in the fall of 2011.
