WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2001-02 Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners were announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Chris O'Riordan and Ellen Estes were Stanford's award winners. O'Riordan is an All-American candidate and the starting second baseman for the Cardinal. He has started 172 straight games at second base and currently leads the team with 199 assists. O'Riordan will help lead the Cardinal in their title quest at College World Series on June 15.
Estes led the women's water polo team to their first-ever NCAA National Title in May. A First Team All-American, Estes netted 35 goals in her final season, including three scores at the NCAA Championships and five in the MPSF Conference Tournament.
