National Competition: Swimming at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, finished 19th in the prelims of the 100 back (55.58), missing the next round by one spot... also 18th at Trials in the 200 free prelims (1:49.95)... swam 40th in the prelims of the 200 IM (2:04.91)... swimming in the senior U.S. Nationals at his future home pool in 2011, finished fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.14, and 12th in the 100 fly (55.53) and 14th in the 100 back (55.21)... Member of the U.S. Youth National team, swimming at the FINA World Cup in 2009 in Berlin and Stockholm.. at the Youth Pan Pacific Championships in Maui, won and set a new meet record in the 200 IM and 400 medley relay.
2011-12 (Freshman): Pac-12 Freshman of the Year... secured a high of 50 points with seven All-America nods at his first NCAA Championship... was an NCAA runner-up in the 200 back with a school-record (1:39.74) and was also second in the 100 back with the third-fastest time in school history (45.53). Also finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:42.85... in relay action, finished fourth in the 400 medley relay and was fifth in the 400 and 200 free relays, and 200 medley relay... impressive first Pac-12 championships resulted in titles in the 200 back (1:40.70), 200 IM (1:42.52) and 100 back (45.76) to earn Swimmer of the Meet honors... also a part of conference winning 400 medley, 200 and 800 free relay squads... earned national swimmer of the week honors after winning the 50 free, 100 fly and 200 back against Pacific to open up the 2012 calendar year... during the regular season won 10 individual events in dual competition, showing his versatility by winning in six categories-- the 50 free (Pacific, ASU), 100 fly (Pacific, Cal/USC), 200 IM (Cal), 200 free (Hawaii, Arizona), 200 breast (ASU) and 200 back (Hawaii, Pacific)... won the 100 fly, 200 back and 200 IM at the Arena Invite in the fall as well. The 200 back was a pool-record. Also scored a pool record in the 400 and 800 free and 400 medely relays... also won the tri-distance annual meet with Cal in the 100, 200 and 400 combined individual medleys, winning all three events to win with a combined time of 15:15.66, nine seconds better than Cal.
High School: Swam four years at Hershey High, winning the state and district championships as a sophomore, junior and senior... Freshman year they were second... at final state meet, chopped off two seconds in the 200 IM and then followed that up with national records in the 100 back and 100 free... the 200 IM time in 2011 would have won the NCAA meet that season and was three seconds faster than Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps' times at that age... national and state record holder in the 200 IM, setting the mark in 2010 and breaking it in 2011... four-time state champion in the 200 IM... national and state record holder in the 100 back, 100 free, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay... state record holder in the 50 free and 400 free relay... Pennsylvania state swimmer of the year as a sophomore, junior and senior... prep All-American in the 50, 200, 200 and 500 freestyles, 100 back, 100 fly and 200 IM... U.S. Army Reserver National Scholar athlete.
Personal: Son of James and Theresa Nolan... has three sisters, Libby, Emily and Katie... majoring in biomechanical engineering.
