Senior Josh Schwarzapel is in his second season as an undergraduate coach for the Cardinal. Originally from Manhattan Beach, California, Schwarzapel was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball at Mira Costa High School. Schwarzapel contributed at outside hitter for the Cardinal before suffering a career ending injury during his sophomore season. Now, Schwarzapel stays involved with the team by coaching.
At Stanford Schwarzapel is wrapping up his undergraduate studies in Communication and working towards a Masters degree in Management Science and Engineering. Schwarzapel is a founding team member of software company Cooliris, Inc. He spent the fall studying abroad in Santiago Chile where he learned Spanish, traveled the continent, promoted Cooliris, and led a team of Stanford students in a poverty eradication initiative dealing with microfinance. His interests include entrepreneurship and investing, playing the guitar, playing beach volleyball, reading, surfing and listening to music. He is the son of Gary Schwarzapel and Debbie Van Ness.
