Proud Hosts of the 2011 Men’s and Women’s
NCAA Championships, May 19-30

Be sure to follow the action of two of the nation’s top teams as they prepare for this great Championship. Our defending National Championship women’s team will be led by NCAA singles semi-finalist and doubles champion, Hilary Barte, and our exceptional men’s team will be led by NCAA singles champion, Bradley Klahn.

For a preview of the season and to see our outstanding incoming freshmen in their Cardinal debut, don’t miss the action at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium this Fall at the ITA Regional Indoor Qualifying Tournament (Men – Oct. 15-19; Women – Oct. 22-25).

This popular event will precede the opening men’s and women’s dual matches the following week, and serve as the Kick-Off for the ITA Men’s and Women’s National Team Indoor Championships Round of 64 and 32 the following weekend. (Full schedules are attached)


If your class reunion is this Fall and you were a member of the Stanford men’s or women’s tennis teams, join your teammates for a “hit-around” at the West Campus Courts, Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10am to noon. You will be greeted by your host, Dick Gould. Just show up – no advance registration necessary.


The annual Thanksgiving Week team trip to Hawaii will once again be at the beautiful Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island, Nov. 20-28. See the attached hotel information in order to secure your room (s). For those who wish, there is a popular daily morning tennis clinic with coaches and staff. Contact coach Lele Forood for information.


Enthusiasm is building for this incredible event – a highlight on the Northern California and national tennis Calendar! The outstanding facility improvements (increased video streaming with sound, renovation of the stadium façade to include three monitors with flexible viewing capabilities, beautiful new player locker rooms, etc.) has been completed. THANKS to those who offered special help to ensure the success of these projects.

Now we move on to the tremendous challenge of ensuring both from a monetary and volunteer standpoint that this Championship will reflect the excellence of Stanford tennis. We are ready to begin our journey/campaign with our sights very much set on the NCAA Championships here at Stanford next May!  We have an extremely talented and deep team this year, having added 4 freshmen to the Farm:  Kristie Ahn, Elizabeth Ecker, Nicole Gibbs and Amelia Herring. 

We begin our road at the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades with our largest contingent in years Oct. 5-10.  We will be competing at the St. Mary’s Invitational as well that week, all as a prelude to hosting the USTA/ITA Regionals here at Stanford Oct. 22-25. 

We wish Lindsay Burdette all the best this year and congratulate Lindsay and Hilary Barte for their great performance at the US Open in Sept. and a tough loss to Zvonerava-Vesnina.

There is still space on our Hawaii trip Nov. 20-28 so if you would like to join us at the beautiful Orchid Hotel on the Big Island please contact me as soon as possible!

New Additions:

We are very pleased that Jamin Ball (Palo Alto, CA), and Daniel Ho (Rosemead, CA) will be joining the team. We’re looking forward to their contributions the next four years.


Richard Wire and Paul Morrissey have graduated. They made significant contributions in their four years, and certainly will be missed. We wish them well in their future endeavors.

Over the summer there were some good results on the court. The highlight was Bradley Klahn’s appearance in the US Open. He received a wildcard and played Sam Querrey in the first round. He lost in a well-fought four set match. Greg Hirshman was a quarterfinalist in the Moraga Open. Matt Kandath was a finalist in doubles in the US Nationals in Kalamazoo, MI

Hawaii Thanksgiving Week (Nov. 20-28)

We will be going to the Kohala Coast on the Big Island this year. We will be playing our match against Hawaii at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel. We always look forward to this week. Contact Lele Forood if you are interested in the trip.
